Students will use an O2 Gas Sensor to measure the amount of O2 produced when H2O2 is broken down by the enzyme catalase at different concentrations, pH values, and temperatures. They will also measure the enzyme's initial reaction rates.
Students use the O2 Gas Sensor during the release of oxygen when hydrogen peroxide reacts with an enzyme catalase. The reaction is repeated at various pH levels, temperatures, and concentrations.
To find the initial rate of the enzyme reaction, students find the slope of the line on the steepest part of the graph.
