Students use a motion detector to the measure the reaction time of other students. They graph the data from trials conducted in the class and analyze trends. They then calculate drop distance from reaction time.
With a paper plate attached to the end of a meter stick, students measure each others reaction time. The univariate class data is compiled and then analyzed by looking at the characteristics of the data distribution.
The univariate data that is compiled from the class is viewed graphically with boxplots and histograms. The relationship of the median with the mean and the effects of outliers are also discussed.
