Exploring NASA Topics in AP* Science with TI-Nspire™ Technology

This workshop, designed for AP* Science, equips educators with lessons and resources involving actual data and problem situations from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Use TI-Nspire™ technology to model and analyze a variety of space-exploration topics, including oxygen production on the International Space Station; lunar landing and surface instrumentation; space shuttle roll maneuvers; and the effects of space on astronauts’ immune, circulatory and muscular systems.

Overview

This in-person workshop is available in one- and two-day options to accommodate educator-specific needs. A half-day workshop option is also available. The two-day workshop offers a more extensive exploration of topics. A virtual workshop is also available in multiple two- or three-hour sessions.

workshop-1-day
  • Overview of TI-Nspire™ technology.
  • Exploration of interactive NASA simulations with pre-made student questions, supporting teacher notes, and videos designed to engage students.
  • Introduction to data collection with the Vernier EasyTemp® USB temperature sensor and gas pressure sensor.
workshop-2-day
  • Exploration of a broader range of NASA lessons across AP* Biology, AP* Chemistry and AP* Physics.
  • Additional coverage of TI-Nspire™ technology, including data collection and analysis.
  • Opportunities for differentiation based on teacher’s needs.

Areas of Focus

This workshop covers NASA lessons for AP* Biology, AP* Chemistry and AP* Physics that incorporate actual data and problem-solving situations from manned space exploration. Essential TI-Nspire™ technology skills will be covered with interactive lessons and data-collection labs.

Subject Topics
AP Biology
Heredity & Evolution (Molecular Genetics); Organisms & Populations (Structure & Function of Plants & Animals; Anatomy & Physiology)
AP Chemistry
States of Matter (Gases); Reactions (Reaction Types, Stoichiometry)
AP Physics B
Newtonian Mechanics (Kinematics; Newton’s Laws of Motion; Work, Energy & Power; Circular Motion & Rotation; Oscillations & Gravitation); Fluid Mechanics (Pressure)
