Science: Vernier - Bungee Jump Accelerations

by Vernier Software & Technology

Overview

Students use an Accelerometer to analyze the motion of a bungee jumper and determine a point where there is maximum and minimum acceleration in the course of the motion. They also compare the experimental data with an actual bungee jump.

Key Steps

  • Image

Students set up the experiment by attaching a small piece of wood or a doll to the Accelerometer and attaching the Accelerometer to a rubber band that is attached to a rigid support such as a large ring stand.

Students select the LOW G ACCEL from the set up menu and start collecting data 1 second before they release the bungee jumper. Students then analyze the graph created to determine the minimum and maximum acceleration points.
