In this activity, students' will determine the average speed of a falling object. They will observe whether or not changing the mass and keeping the same shape have an effect on the average speed of the object.
A height-time graph of one to six nested coffee fillters falling on a CBR2 is used to calculate the average speed of different masses that have the same air resistance.
Students differentiate regions of the height-time graph that indicate accelerated motion with regions that indicate constant velocity.
From their data table, students are to describe the relationship between the mass of a falling object and the average speed of descent.
